FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is it called Neap?
We live next to the Bay of Fundy, home to the highest tides in the world. The rise and fall of the water here is dramatic and powerful—and part of what makes this place so special.
But a neap tide is different. It’s the quiet tide—not the highest high or the lowest low.
That’s the feeling we want this magazine to capture for our readers. The average days that are still full of possibility and joy.
We chose the name Neap because, even beside the world’s biggest tides, there’s beauty in the calm.
What is the magazine about?
Neap is a magazine focused on stories that are kind, joyful, and rooted in community.
Some are lighthearted, some reflective—but all are meant to make you feel good. We celebrate the people, places, and moments that make this part of Nova Scotia so special.
Is the magazine just good news?
Pretty much, yes!
We know that what we focus on is what flourishes, and we want those happy, good, joyful, and kind stories to flourish throughout our community.
We get it - this doesn’t stop the negative things from being real. However, there are many places to get those stories - but Neap isn’t one of them.
When you finish reading Neap, we want you to be calm, refreshed, and happy.
Is the magazine really made locally?
Yes, it is!
From writing and photography to layout and printing, we’re doing our best to keep things local. It’s part of our commitment to supporting our province and investing in the people who live in Nova Scotia.

Absolutely! We love working with small businesses, artists, service providers, and community organizations. We offer a variety of ad sizes and styles to fit different needs and budgets.
That said, space is limited—our priority is keeping the magazine content-rich and ad-light, so we carefully curate the number of ads in each issue.
